Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Elke Solomon (1943–2024)

A.I.R. Gallery is saddened to note the loss of our dear friend and community member Elke Solomon, who passed away on January 9, 2024 at the age of 80.

An artist whose interdisciplinary practice spanned performance, painting, installation, printmaking, drawing, and photography, Solomon was an early member of A.I.R. Gallery (1984–2001) and most recently served for over a decade on the A.I.R. Advisory Board.

Between 1986–1999, Solomon presented seven solo exhibitions of paintings and drawings at A.I.R. that featured her characteristic mix of social critique and humor. Her final installations at the gallery included Early Bird Special Café: Another Installation (2018) and A Tavola! An Installation (2010).
