Artcards brings you to art May 4, 2010

Weekly Outlook

May kicks off with a full week in LA, with most shows opening Saturday night and several film highlights.

Tonight (Tuesday May 4th), I am looking forward to the lecture at LACMA: "Experimental Film in a museum context: Material" curated by Morgan Fisher, Mark Toscano, and Jennifer West. MATERIAL will consider the physical conditions of film pertaining to issues of preservation, digitization, process, and nostalgia.

Two screenings stand out this week: Wednesday, REDCAT @ CalArts presents a juried selection of new live-action works by filmmakers in Film and Video and the Film Directing Program; and Saturday, "Mini Film Festival" curated by Rika Iezumi Hiro at The Box.

Before you sit down to watch moving image make sure to go to Susanne Vielmetter to see Mickalene Thomas's new work.

Check it out, enjoy, and I hope to see you out there!
