Weekly Outlook

Welcome to this week in Art in LA

Wednesday night the Lecture: "Mobile Art Projects Education Strategies w/ Brandy Vause" at LACE Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. I think this might be my new favorite place, the pop kitsch aesthetic mixed with performance and mobile art located within the seediness of Hollywood next door to strip club clothiers reminiscent of Lower East Side in the early 80's where art thrives.

Friday night I'm very curious about Elijah Blue "Stuff of Legends" presented by Kantor Gallery at Madison Gallery. Elijah is the son of Cher and Greg Allman. I'm not sure if my curiousity is for the possible celebrity sightings and the spectacle or to see Mr. Blue's art. It's all performance in the end, ain't it?

Saturday night make sure to be in Culver City for "Nine Stories" UC Irvine Graduate exhibition at LaxArt. And a few shows opening at Blum and Poe, Culver City:
- Georg Baselitz, Tom Burr, Jim Drain, Charles Long, "Cumulus" curated by Nathalie Karg
- Billy Al Bengston, Justin Beal, Scott Benzel, Gil "Endless Bummer / Surf Elsewhere" curated by Drew Heitzler
- Maureen Gallace, Emilie Halpern, Richard Hughes, F "Country Music" curated by Jeff Poe

If you don't already have a BBQ to attend on the 4th, Mike Bouchet's project out in 29 palms at 4pm takes the cake! Drink and swim in a pool of 100,000 liters of diet cola, the largest volume of diet cola in the world. Booze, BBQ and Flat Cola pool provided. RSVP to info@theboxla.com or call 213.625.1747 for directions.

So get out there, check it out and Enjoy!

Best Wishes,

Alex Staiger
