Los Angeles
Artcards brings you to art November 15, 2011

Weekly Outlook

Start your Saturday night out with a rare lecture on the intersections of philosophy and art by Marcus Steinweg, at Blum and Poe, from 6-7:30pm.

For Destroy All Monsters fans, Mike Kelley curates the first retrospective exhibition of work by the original members, Mike Kelley, Cary Loren, Niagara, and Jim Shaw. Accompanying the exhibition is a full color, 312-page catalogue co-published with PictureBox and edited by Mike Kelley and Dan Nadel with an essay by Nicole Rudick. PRISM Gallery, Saturday 7-9pm.

Then, Cindy Bernard will show her 24-hour video piece, Year Long Loop, at Human Resources from November 19th, 4pm through November 20th, 4pm. The piece consists of 5 minute shots taken from a viewpoint in Mt. Washington over the span of one year. The compiled five minute segments form a 24-hour video loop. To reward you for your viewing effort, doughnuts and coffee will be served during the final two hours on Sunday, November 20th.

There are some great exhibits up at LACMA right now, including, Contested Visions in the Spanish Colonial World and Edward Kienholz’s Five Car Stud (1969–72)

In a 1966 interview, when asked why he became an artist, Ed Kienholz humorously replied, "I knew that there was more things in the world than milking cows and listening about folk on the radio, and I wanted to know what it was about."

See you out there.
