Weekly Outlook
Now that the famous 340-ton rock specified for Michael Heizer's piece, "Levitated Mass," has been safely transported from a Riverside quarry to LACMA, critics and viewers can shift their attention to the many art events happening this week. This Friday: Thomas Duncan Gallery opens a solo exhibition of new work by Lucas Knipscher. The exhibition title is presented in the form of a list: 1. Bamboo on the Moon, 2. Second Mouse, 3. The Five Obstacles I Could Afford. The artist will display work in a multitude of mediums including ceramic, plastic, felt and photographic emulsion on fabric. This Saturday: Commonwealth & Council extends its dialogue about cooperative knowledge and the shared experience of art with Whistling and Language Transfiguration (WaLT), Gala Porras-Kim’s second solo exhibition with the space. In a recent LA Weekly Review, artist William Leavitt praises Commonwealth & Council, comparing the underground space to the early L.A. art scene of the 1960's. At Monte Vista Projects, an exhibition hauntingly entitled, I'll Be Your Mirror, explores the condition of mimicry and the appearance of the doppelgänger, curated by Daniel McGrath. Editor's Picks
