Weekly Outlook
Spring having sprung and all, we're excited about the months ahead. At both the big art schools' open studios we saw tons of interesting new work by new people, so the just-on-the-horizon MFA shows around the bay should be exciting. In that vein, the CCA curatorial class exhibition opens Thursday at the Wattis Institute at CCA's SF campus. On Apology features work by Erick Beltrán, Omer Fast, Slavs and Tatars, and Dawn Weleski among many others. These shows are always both engaging and a good time, we're excited to see what this group has cooked up. And, fingers crossed, the weather is looking good for the Headland Center for the Arts Spring Open House. It is like killing two birds with one stone, big doses of both culture and the golden gate bridge. CURIOUSLY DIRECT PICKS: Berkeley Art Museum//State of Mind: New California Art circa 1970= Incredible little slice of Pacific Standard Time, focusing on conceptual art and genres with a kinship to it. Walter and McBean Gallery//Living in Studio Kuchar=A well installed, overwhelmingly maximalist show of this seminal bay area figure's life and work which I couldn't recommend higher. Ending soon. Marx & Zavattero//Libby Black: Nothing Lasts Forever= I was surprised by this pretty great little show. Peering in, I was non-plussed initially but as I spent time and looked closer at the images, varying from flowers and books to Axel Rose on piano and the Challenger disaster, they quickly grew on me in their quirky decisiveness. facebook.com/curiouslydirect NOTE: Looking forward, keep sending us your ideas for making this site as useful to you as possible!
