Weekly Outlook

So many choices; a wealth of options:
This Friday is a bit crazy; the perfect convergence of scheduling around a holiday and long brewing projects all coming together on the same day. Here is a brief description of some of it I’ll try to make it to in a kind of order…
1.
A GOOD WAY AWAY, the second of the Stairwell’s shows, this time at the Carville Annex out by the ocean in San Francisco. This one features three artists, Matt Kennedy, Noah Krell, and Collin Mckelvey, all of whose work I admire, and a publication by six bay area writers. And, its all for one night, so its all or nothing for this show.
2.
The Cindy Sherman retrospective opens at SFMOMA, featuring a performance by Andrea Fraser which is the real draw here as the show itself will be open a very long time.
3.
Movement in Many Parts, organized by Kearny Street Workshop and curated by Lucy Seena K. Lin and Weston Teruya, featuring artists such as Susan Chen, Mik Gaspay, Amy M. Ho, Christine Nguyen and Genevieve Quick. This one is an odd ball, filling a large group of cases in a Chinatown Oakland building, and it will be interesting to see how the artists work within this strange framework. Note that at this point in the evening we’ve made our way to Oakland…
4.
S.H.E.D Projects presents PASSION FRUIT, featuring New York artists Dorian McKaie and Daniel Sullivan and possibly a repurposed rental car, videos, and paintings.(full disclosure: the second part of it will be at MacArthur B Arthur on Saturday where we helped organize it)

And then, sleep, or, the Austin Eddy and Nicolás Colón shows at Important Projects… it’s a busy little night, a sign of a vibrant art community which feels like its picking up steam.

Curiously Direct Picks
Ratio 3// Katarina Burin: Andrejova-Molnár Papers= This show is excellent, a gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) of such a considered content and quality of production as to make the meek exhibitions common to our local museums tame by comparison. I haven’t written a review for this show yet and I look forward to going back, but it’s a must see.
