Weekly Outlook
After a long summer , the art world is emerging from its chrysalis reborn. There are so many exciting looking shows opening this week, and its hard to pick out things to highlight from the bunch. But if I have to (and I don't), I suggest seeing: Amy Ho's '2x2 Solo' show at Pro Arts in Oakland, there is a reception on Friday from 6-8pm. Jason Kraus 'Edit' at Jessica Silverman, with a reception Friday 6-8pm (I wish SF galleries would avoid the one 'Oakland' day a month, first friday..) Amy Ho, Christine Peterson, Rhonda Holberton among others at 'Introductions' at Root Division, Saturday, 7-10pm. And, a shameless plug, 'In Stasis', curated by the Art Cards editors, at Mac Arthur B Arthur in Oakland, opening Friday from 7-10pm. Curiously Direct Picks Ever Gold//Mark Benson: Get the Flu= A series of sculptures, paintings, and a performance/service, this exhibition of all new work by Benson showcased his unconventional approach to materials and display, and his ridiculous sense of humor. And, if you get a chance: MOCA//LA//Ends of the Earth: Land Art to 1974= ... .But to be clear, this is an incredible show, full of work which both outlined the basis of future practices and which worked on its own terms...The curators herein argue for a wide interpretation of the field of land art, expanding the perceived limits beyond americo-eurocentric notions, focusing on both its institutionalization through key exhibitions and the complexities of display for work which often denies access to the site or event of its creation. I'll be working through ideas/questions the show raised for quite a while; it is an incredible show, worth the trip down south to see. Editor's Picks
