San Francisco
Artcards brings you to art November 27, 2012

Weekly Outlook

We at Art Cards are quite full, having feasted at multiple family and friend meals on more than our share of incredible food. We are a mixture of groggy and overwhelmed, about to head off to Miami for the art fair scene.

But we’re not about to let all this keep us from experiencing this week’s light but exciting schedule of events.

Lecture-wise, Nayland Blake will be speaking at CCA tonight, and there will also be a talk about his work at YBCA on Saturday titled Nayland’s Makeover: Drag + Bay Area Personae which sounds promising. Tuesday is also the night of a screening in Art Cards editor Jackie Im’s OACC Movie Night series in Oakland, this time showing The Housemaid (Kim, 1960). Wednesday’s Kadist SF presentation of Presente, Presente, Presente! Festival de Performance de Cali in San Francisco looks good too, as does Cornelia Butler speaking Thursday at SFAI discussing Lygia Clark: From Painting to Participation.

Exhibition wise, we are most excited about Somewhere in the fold at The Popular Workshop (opening Thursday evening). It has a long list of publishers and artists mixing the two practices. While it looks to be a bit crowded peeking at the lineup, what will be shown promises to be quite good.

NOTE
Miami! We (Jackie Im and Aaron Harbour) will be exhibiting works by four artists at NADA in Miami next week. If you are going to the fair, please stop by the Et Al. booth and say hi. Talk to us about the beach, art, or anything really as we'll be stuck in the booth all day.
