Weekly Outlook
Its time for presents and such, and we at Art Cards can think of no better present than something handmade... here are some hints for last minute giftings. Needles and Pens, long time bay area bastion of zines and other hand made things Little Paper Planes, online source for small editions, especially nice right now is their 2013 calendar, and the new UNIFORMA line of handmade goods. The kind folks at Colpa Press have been running their EDICOLA newsstand for a while now, and it is well stocked with treasures. And the editors of Art Cards as Et Al. have a site where some very nice work is available by artists such as Christopher West, Carissa Potter and Mark Taylor among others... ET AL. FLAT FILE. And a little more shopping advice, check out on 24th in SF PRESS and EXPLORIST INTERNATIONAL, and 1 2 3 4 GO records in Oakland. Please enjoy these festive weeks. Curiously Direct Picks The Popular Workshop//Somewhere in the Fold= A large group show of works at the intersection of publishing and art making. I enjoyed this show tremendously; though there are a ton of artists and publishers represented the layout of the show, the switches in scale and form etc. made for a space I enjoyed being in and exploring. Highly recommended. Altman Siegel//Liam Everett: If I could sleep I might make love. I’d go into the woods. My eyes would see . . . the sky, the earth. I’d run, run, they wouldn’t catch me.= Solo show of Everett's sculpture and painting practice, replete with works straddling the two forms. I loved this show. The works read to me as individuals with histories and potentialities. I am especially fond of the more sculptural objects, here a series of banner-like works and a piece suspended across a pair of saw horses, but a group of very static paintings on masonite seemed to produce a strange, internal, animate glow. Excellent. Editor's Picks
