Weekly Outlook
And so it happened to me as it may have already (or hopefully will not ever) happen to you: some kind of flu overtook me and I basically missed whatever may have happened Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Adding that missed weekend to me being out of town the week before and I’m in a bit of a situation There are two ways of looking at this: One, I’m way behind on my gallery going or, Two, when I do go out to see stuff the cities are jam-packed with exhibitions that are new-to-me. I’m going with option two, and am excited to get out again ASAP. New-new will be the big group show at YBCA Without Reality There is No Utopia, opening Friday, with some of my favorite artists right now including Dora Garcia, Ciprian Muresan and Artur Żmijewski. Also exciting opening Friday is the solo show of Noam Rappaport at Ratio 3. And, also Friday (busy day!) Anna Halprin and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s respective MATRIX exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum will be awesome. Close to home (because I and fellow editor Jackie Im have a studio there, thus, conflict of interests alert), there will be an open studio event at Real Time and Space, home to the studio of Carrie Hott, Amy Ho, Joel Dean and Christina Linden (18 in total plus a resident, currently the rad Carson Fisk-Vittori) Great art, decent refreshments, Saturday 2-6pm at Real Time and Space. ->Event page
