Artcards brings you to art March 26, 2013

Weekly Outlook

The projects an artist does outside of their normal practice are often exciting peeks at other aspects of the artist’s personality and into the underlying thinking that goes into their work.

In this sense, Thursday’s The Artist Drawing Club event looks enticing.  A monthly series of projects with contemporary artists within the context of the Asian Art Museum, this month’s version sees Art Cards favorite Amy M. Ho giving a tour of the museum ‘looking for shadows, spaces, and sounds’. For anyone familiar with Ho’s practice and its use of architecture, space and light, this is a unique opportunity to experience how she sees and hears a space. And this being the Asian Art Museum, full of complicated and confusing architectural choices in its mix of new and old, the event promises to be doubly exciting.

Thursday, March 28th, 6:30-9pm, free with museum admission (tip: consider arriving early and take a quick walk around first)

Curiously Direct Picks

YBCA//Erin Shirreff: Lake= A peculiar, challenging single channel video work. Dark landscapes drift into and out of the frame, each a revision of the images from a tourist brochure to her home made strange through digital processes of editing, reprinting etc.
&
Without Reality There is No Utopia= An excellent, sprawling group exhibition which takes multiple viewings to make a dent into due to multiple long video works and lots of text to read. It is striking how complicated the politics of these works are versus the simplicity of the terrible Occupy show. I am excited to return and take in more, it is a must-see.
