Weekly Outlook
Two sure bets: 1. An opening tomorrow at Paule Anglim (Wednesday - late email this week!) looks to be a strange affair with art by Eleanor Coppola in one gallery, but I am most excited to see the watercolors by John Zurier. Excited seems the wrong word; Zurier's work is so very quiet and subtle, definitely best seen outside the environment of an opening. His last show of large near-monochrome paintings was great: minimal, airy, generous if so simple a work can be such a thing. So I'm looking forward to seeing these new, smaller pieces. 2. I was discussing with an artist their goal to find a balance between concept, craft and aesthetics and it occurs to me a good example of a practice wrestling with this process is that of Maggie Haas. Having spent time doing a residency at the Lab, her efforts are culminating in an exhibition opening friday. I consistently enjoy her mix of color and shape coupled with site-derived elements and peculiar material choices. QUESTIONNAIRE Still following questionnaire?
