Weekly Outlook
The weather! Incredible, like shockingly so… and it’s the end of the month, which means the calendar is light, light but not without things to do and see between trips to Fort Funston and Big Sur. Something Sunday which is the best of both worlds: the spring open house at the Headlands, which mixes good food, performances and consistently interesting studios to poke one’s head into. Before that, catch FICTIONAL/FAMILIAR, opening Saturday at Swarm Gallery in Oakland. Artists Cybele Lyle, Leigh Merrill, and (former Art Cards editor) Emma Spertus all cleverly twist and reorient spaces and objects, this group show has much promise. Curiously Direct Picks Though comprising four works (one of them half the size of a finger),at Altman Siegel, 'O the sleeping bag contains the body but not the dreaming head' with works byAlice Channer, Aaron Flint Jamison, Anicka Yi, curated by McIntyre Parker (of the also worth visiting home-gallery Pied-à-terre in SF) is weird and wonderful, and a must see. NOTE On a self-promotional note, Art Cards editors Jackie Im and Aaron Harbour (me) along with our partner Facundo Argañaraz are opening a gallery, Et al., with our first exhibition opening this Friday from 7-9pm. So, if I don’t mention conflicts of interest in my writing (for instance: the suggested show above features gallery artist Cybele Lyle..) feel free to call me out . Going forward, expect me to avoid mentioning the goings on at our space in these scant weekly emails, so while I'm engaging in this sin, I'll say that sincerely we’d love to see you at our space, 620 Kearny in SF. ->facebook event ->Etaletc.com
