Weekly Outlook
It’s the Memorial Day short-week and the light-scheduled end of the month. Maybe you got out of town a bit, if not, here are a few suggestions: Stanford MFA thesis exhibition, open through June 16th, featuring ambitious work by a stellar line up of artists including Greg Stimac, Chris Duncan and Ben Bigelow. If you can’t make it this week, try to make the always fun BBQ being held on the 8th at the MFA studios. Present Tense, the graduate fellowship exhibition at the Headlands, open through June 9th, with work by the titular group, many of whom are showing works in a variety of media and scales. And what feels like a daytrip for the very SF-centric amongst us: Oakland. The show briefly reviewed below is a must see, but I’d like to make a special note of something that happened: a one-night event last Friday at S.H.E.D. Projects, MOWOM LIVE, by Bailey Hikawa and Erin Jane Nelson. A considered group of snacks and beverages, a stage, a huge moon, two pillars (“one ancient and one strange”) were the backdrop for a wonderful, funny, well executed play. were the backdrop for a wonderful, funny, well executed play. The text ruminated on new age themes, food fetishism, split personalities, the moon... if you missed it, and you probably did, I suggest doing your best to catch the next thing by these two, or working to make their next thing happen. COUNTDOWN SFMOMA prepares to go into its chrysalis with a four-day celebration, for a rundown of the countless food events, performances, screenings etc. go to -> Curiously Direct Picks n/a//Christopher Füllemann: Your motion says you're in the mood= An outstanding exhibition of sculptures by Füllemann in an exciting new art gallery in Oakland. Each mixes materials, elements in a variety scales, color, and clever interactions with the architecture of the space and needs of both a home (this is a house gallery, though the meaning of that seems pushed here with the bed lying in the open) and performers who will be interacting with these things and this space in the coming weeks. Highly recommended. Editor's Picks
