Weekly Outlook
Closings, openings, transitions... there is plenty of pressure and stress going around now as our towns seem to be changing beneath our feet. But instead of fretting, bemoaning, moving... lets double down. There is plenty of opportunity here, there are tons of incredible artists of all sorts with artists still choosing to move to the Bay Area because they perceive it as a rich place to be. And it is, galleries and institutions will come and go but there will always be people here to rebuild, reconsider, renew. We need to create the new, scrappy spaces of today that will be the Lab, New Langton, Southern Exposure, Queens Nails of the future. They are/were great, but maybe yours will be great too. Do a show in your bathroom, your garage, a park... make it to the shows outside of the traditional gallery area and pay attention to and visit and participate in the scenes elsewhere... and make here where you want to be.
