Artcards brings you to art May 13, 2014

Weekly Outlook

It's a busy week for things too big to be seen in one sitting and too brief to make it to more than once.

Art Market (they scrapped the awkward 'MRKT' though it shows up in the search results with that as the subheader) returns as the longest running Bay Area art fair. It still lacks a strong lineup of non-Bay Area galleries, support for small project spaces, and many of the top SF galleries continue to not participate. Ratio 3, Jessica Silverman, Altman Siegel will once again sit this out which says something, but its nice that Steven Wolf Fine Arts and Romer Young are exhibiting, and the lineup of talks/events seems improved as well.

And this week sees the opening of grad shows at Berkeley, CCA, and SFAI. Berkeley is reasonable with six students given tons of space, while CCA and SFAI will once again bombard us with massive graduating classes. The hard part is avoiding countless acquaintances and friends and looking at the work, but with focus, blinders, and a willingness to seem unfriendly it can be done. However tired I am or busy with other projects, these shows never cease to be exciting reflections of our community and jumping off points for future exhibitions.
