Weekly Outlook

Sometimes things come to an end quite naturally. S.H.E.D. Projects is having one of its last if not the last event on Thursday. Located in a shed behind a home in Oakland, S.H.E.D has hosted readings, plays, dj nights, and a number of excellent art exhibitions. Its directors, Jonah Susskind and Emmy Moore are about to head east, and are leaving us with a show of their work. I'm very fond of Susskind's excellent, funny sculptures and wall pieces (and Moore's jams and pickles) and it will be bittersweet to attend this event and see this strange space activated for the last time.

Two events on Saturday will compete for your attention; perhaps its best you flip a coin. Bill Orcutt is performing at Pied-à-terre in San Francisco (one of the best and smallest art venues in the bay). His performances are intense, if you've not seen him before I'll simply describe this as a man singing and playing acoustic guitar and let it happen for you like it did for me at the Lab years ago.

Also on Saturday in Oakland, Erin Jane Nelson and Paulette Nichols have an exhibition opening at Royal NoneSuch Gallery which I'm excited about. Titled "Erin and Paulette's Art Show", its bound to be both fun and sharp if the pics I've seen on facebook are any guide.
