Weekly Outlook
For a week with a first Thursday and a first Friday, its dead quiet around town. Its the 4th of July, its summer, and the sun and fireworks and vacations hold sway over the art world which is fine. Suggestions? Catch the final days of David Bayus's show at City Limits, which I saw this weekend and found definitely worth the trip. Also of note: the summer group show at Gallery Paule Anglim has some real gems, including a few excellent David Ireland works, a great Joan Brown, and a suite of Bruce Connors' excellent punk scene photos among other things. The show of Will Yackulic's sculptures at Gregory Lind is also pretty good. Added to the good (and not great? I want to see it again..) Altman Siegel show, the downtown spaces have just enough good things to justify wandering through them despite less than stellar shows at Haines and Wirtz and the usual slew of missable shows spread across 49 Geary's floors.
