Weekly Outlook
The Kuchar brothers hold a special place in my mind. In the late 90's I took George Kuchar's class at SFAI and it was, well, life changing. Guests streamed into and out of the studio, old instrumental lounge records played and the camera rolled as we collectively made a movie. The details of that film are quite hazy, something to do with the chupacabra, but having spent my whole childhood carefully honing the craft of drawing and painting, slowly and alone, the communal, freeform way the work came into being was a revelation to me. Artists Television Access will be screening new works by Mike Kuchar on Thursday and two of George's 'Weather Diary' pieces on Friday. George's lengthy filmography and Mike's still expanding body of work are full of strange, sometimes psychedelic and often extremely personal gems. This (and any) screening of their works is highly recommended. Editor's Picks
