There are some shows and events this week, but its starting to quiet down around town. I'm starting to think about the highlights from the year, but I'll likely wait to share until either the week between Christmas and New Years or sometime early next year.

What sticks out to you? Highlights/lowlights? Favorite new or new-to-you galleries, artists, writers, bands? For that later category: this was a year in which practically 0 new 'bands' (guitar and drums and whatnot) made their way into my headphones, replaced with rap and r&b both new and old, and the usual mix of electric/experimental things. (quick plug: check out my podcast Timbermaybe) These sort of larger scale shifts in consumption/aesthetic are hard to suss out, and it is these that I'm personally looking for when reflecting on 2014.

I'd like to suggest a pair of lectures, if you are up for that sort of thing. One is tonight at Stanford, a talk by the exciting architect David Adjaye on "designing the architecture of civic space." He'll likely discuss his current project, the complicated Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Its free and open to the public, for more info go to LINK

And Thursday at the Wattis, another in what are turning into a vital series of lectures. Rasmus Røhling gives a presentation about the ever-strengthening field of artistic research, its secret desire to be casual, and the "annoying interruption" of exhibition making. As I've been thinking a bit about the distinctions betwee artistic research, practice, performance, and presentation, this sounds very intriguing. LINK
