Please SUBSCRIBE to CURIOUSLY DIRECT DIRECT if you'd like more up to date informations :) I've been a little slow getting out to shows as I got lost in my own projects, so expect a barrage of reviews this weekend. There is less opening this week, but even more to recommend. The FOG A rt + Design Fair opens on the 15th. Quality - wise, there is much more to like at this fair than at say, Art Market . But in exchange for some of the , let's say, hard to look at work at Art Market , FOG tosses in furniture and design , making it kind of a wash. Many of the best local galleries will be there, but there's little reason to see them at the fair (as a non- collector ) instead of at their brick -and -mortar locations. For instance, Ratio 3, while at FOG, has a solo show of Ben Peterson's sculptures opening on Saturday that should be great. Our Bay Area art fair scene still leaves much to be desired, with the unfortunately titled stARTup fair in May at the same time as the uneven Art Market. (Hey stARTup: Why not curate the booths, not make the artists shoulder the rent for hotel rooms and press at a price not terribly different from what galleries pay at fairs , and instead take the gamble yourselves on paying for the thing, taking a percent from the sales to cover costs therefore encouraging your own outreach to make sure folks with $$$ spend) Also likely to impress (and make me laugh) is Mark Benson's How Was Your Weekend? at Ever Gold. That night the second show at Kiria Koula opens, with an artist who I'm a fan of at a distance (having not seen his work in person till, well, later this week) . Benoît Maire will be taking over both the gallery and bookstore sides. I finally made it to this space as its first show was ending (review pending) and I've a feeling it will quickly become my favorite space. And for the adventurous, tmoro projects in Santa Clara hosts Carey Lin & Bonanza : What's Going On (feat. 4 Non Blondes) , a show which looks great from the early pics on Instagram. Also out of the way but worth the trek is the delayed (due to one of those huge storms last year) talk at di Rosa coinciding with the excellent exhibition The Presence of the Present. On view and in the neighborhood is Joe Krasean's show at the new project space Loss in Translation. Lets leave it at that for now, the main point being: THERE'S TONS TO SEE! I hope to see you out there this weekend. Editor's Picks
