Michael Rosenthal Gallery is the ideal place to meet an array of artists from the Bay Area and beyond. Featuring over 30 artists, Annual Biennial, the month long group exhibition, presents work by Michael Rosenthal gallery artists Megan Whitmarsh, Amy Casey, Lisa Adams, Inga Dorosz, Jane Fine, Veronica De Jesus, and Elizabeth Mooney, in addition to a variety of artists in the gallery's flat-file collection, including Carrie Mae Weems, Bruce Nauman, Cindy Sherman, and James Rosenquist.
Gallery owner Michael Rosenthal views Annual Biennial as an opportunity to celebrate the growth of his nearly one-year old San Francisco gallery, as well as the artists with whom the gallery works and those it represents. "This is a great collectors show, and a great show for the gallery," notes Rosenthal, "as it allows us to showcase a portion of the gallery's treasure trove of works in a really playful manner." Displaying between 2 and 5 works apiece, primarily paintings and drawings, Rosenthal's Annual Biennial artists, akin to a melange of interesting party guests, each take on a space of there own, commanding conversation and contemplation. The salon style hanging of the exhibition brings together a 'back-to-the-basics', crisp, colorful curation of works, and firmly positions Michael Rosenthal Gallery as one of San Francisco's newest galleries to keep a future eye on.
