HYPERFACIALITY BY MICHEL PLATNIC | May 16 - September 20, 2024 | ZAZ GALLERY

Garden Muse, 2023

HyperFaciality by Michel Platnic

ZAZ10TS is thrilled to announce the opening of HyperFaciality, a multimedia art exhibition by renowned international artist Michel Platnic. The exhibition will run from May 16 to September 20 at the ZAZ10TS Gallery located at 10 Times Square, New York.

HyperFaciality deals with notions of faciality—coined by Deleuze and Guattari in A Thousand Plateaus—to explore alternative forms of identity and subjectivity. In Michel Platnic’s works, the face serves as a canvas to operate a manipulation of facial features and expressions. He engages with the complexities of visual representation. By referencing modernist iconic paintings, Platnic highlights the responsibility of artists who often reconsider established norms while creating new ones.

The exhibition at ZAZ10TS Gallery comprises fine art pigment prints as well as living painting videos of his popular series ‘After Bacon,’ inspired by Francis Bacon’s work, and the series ‘After Egon Schiele,’ presenting After ‘Sitting Girl with Raised Head’ and After ‘Self Portrait with Chinese Lantern,’ as well as his newest work, Garden Muse, which was created last year during the Kingsland Wild Flowers Festival in Brooklyn with a live audience. Combining several techniques including painting, sculpting, drawing, photography, and video, many of his works are brought to life before a live audience, offering a unique interactive experience.

The “After Egon Schiele” video series can also be viewed by the public on “ZAZ Corner,” an LED billboard gallery showcasing digital artwork outside the building at the corner of 41st Street and 7th Avenue from May 16 - June 16, 2024.

Join us for the Opening Reception at ZAZ10TS Gallery on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM.

URI KATZENSTEIN, JANUARY 2 - MAY 10, 2024 | ZAZ Gallery

Uri Katzenstein, untitled, 2013-2015 | Backyard exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of art

ZAZ10TS showcasing Uri Katzenstein’s videos in the ZAZ Gallery for the New Years 2024.

Uri Katzenstein focused his artistic expression on video projects and installations in the latter stages of his career. Using video allowed him to incorporate other elements from his repertoire such as sculpture, performance art and music.

“I love to work with the spoilage...These are the things that are incompetent, negligible, like bad roots that grow behind stones, but a lot can come from them like healing plants. Everything that ostensibly has no purpose, but over time can have a very deep purpose. And this is the concept that is in my work. I am interested in taking you on a journey that is dichotomy, is also enjoyable but also horrible, apocalyptic and primary, and primitive.“
— Uri Katzenstein (1951 - 2018)
