Weekly Outlook

The theme of this week is cultural enrichment and professional development with a cornucopia of lectures, screenings, and performances -- topped off by the 11th Annual Expo for Independent Arts at CELLSpace on Saturday.

Out of the surplus of events, I would like to highlight the following:

A lecture on Thursday at CCA of Jan Verwoert, a Berlin-based art critic and contributing editor to Frieze.

"Electronic Cinema" at ATA this Friday, where sound artists perform live scores for films by experimental filmmakers.

A novel art show concept comes to SF Art Commission Gallery: "Transplanted" three commissioned projects by Bay Area newcomers opens Friday.

Lastly, a spatial acoustic concert, not to be missed, at Southern Exposure called "Infrasound 25" on Saturday.

Great new content on Artcards Review:
- "Featured Artist: Xaviera Simmons" with video, images, and write-up by Helen Homan Wu.
- "Horatio: a Tale of Gentrification and Basketball" by Howard Hurst. An excellent story with many Facebook 'likes.'
- "C/16: The Return of Avant-Garde Cinema"
- "Birdbath and New Cookies" - Helen Homan Wu tastes new cookies at the New Museum.
- "Ask Art Critic Jerry Saltz" - a call to action from NY Mag's art critic.
