Greenpoint Open Studios
A weekend long celebration where artists open their studios in an effort to build, sustain, and support a thriving creative community.
Weekly Outlook

The fall season continues at a steady clip, making it hard to keep up with all shows. If you missed an opening night and want to check out shows during the day, use our recently opened and editor's picks pages to plan a day trip.

Last Thursday's high-point was at Greene Naftali (as is often the case). Gagosian on 23rd was packed for Anselm Reyle's show -- a large wall piece perfectly designed for the lobby of a high-end hotel was interesting from afar and most interesting when looked at from the side, although the piece quickly lost its charm and mystery. As a whole, the show felt expertly produced to a wasteful extent: I kept asking, "did this piece really warrant anything beyond a page in a sketchbook?"

This week, the annual Down Under the Bridge Festival takes over DUMBO -- the event opens all venues of DUMBO to art installation and gained some credibility last year, after a few years of surprisingly uninspired work. This year's festival promises to grow even more and has a new "Video Dumbo" component. New to the scene is Greenpoint Open Studios with events throughout the weekend. So, I suggest a trip to Brooklyn for you! There is also plenty to do in Manhattan as you can see below.
